didn’t break stride as he left the practice field. The recently fired Browns head coach was trying to outrun questions about what it’s like being on the opposite sideline this week.Jackson left Cincinnati after the 2015 season and spent two-plus seasons trying — futilely — to get the Browns to win. Now he’s back in town http://www.brownsfanshop.com/Sione-Takitaki-Jersey , trying to beat them in a pivotal game. He’s hoping his insights give the Bengals (5-5) an edge Sunday in the intrastate rivalry. The stakes are high for Cincinnati, which has dominated the series lately and wants to keep it that way.“Everybody wants to count us out right now,” center Billy Price said. “Everybody wants to put us in the dumpster and light us on fire, but we still have a lot to accomplish. We have a lot of things going on. We have a lot of winnable games coming up here.”The Browns (3-6-1) merely would like a victory away from the shore of Lake Erie.Cleveland has lost 25 consecutive road games, one shy of the NFL mark held by the Detroit Lions from 2007-10. The Browns’ last win on the road came at Baltimore, where Josh McCown led them to a 33-30 overtime victory on Oct. 11, 2015 — back when Jackson was the Bengals’ offensive coordinator.Whether the streak endures or ends will come down to whether the Bengals figure out a way to stop Cleveland’s rookie duo on offense.Last week, Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and running back Gus Edwards became the first rookie QB/RB duo to run for at least 100 yards in the same game, leading Baltimore to a 24-21 victory over Cincinnati. The Bengals have given up more than 200 yards rushing in each of the last two games.By contrast, Cleveland beat Kansas City 28-16 before heading into its bye week. Rookie Baker Mayfield tied a club rookie record with three touchdown passes, and rookie Nick Chubb ran for a career-high 176 yards, including a 92-yard touchdown that was the second-longest by a rookie in NFL history.“I think it is our guys believing in it, knowing that we do not need anything else besides what we have in this locker room, blocking out the distractions and coming together,” Mayfield said. “Things happen, and you can use it for good. We did.”Can they do it again against their former head coach? Some things to watch at Paul Brown Stadium:HUE KNOWSHow much can Hue Jackson tip the outcome? Sure, he knows the Browns’ systems intimately and the players personally, but having the bye week allowed Cleveland to change some things.“In all honesty, there are no secrets anymore in the league with how all the film is out there to show everybody exactly what you’re doing Greedy Williams Jersey ,” Brown interim coach Gregg Williams said.OH THAT DEFENSEThe Bengals fired defensive coordinator Teryl Austin after becoming the first team in the Super Bowl era to allow 500 yards in three straight games. Coach Marvin Lewis assumed the job of defensive coordinator as well as hiring Jackson as a special assistant on defense. The change didn’t make enough of a difference as the Bengals got run over in Baltimore. Their main focus this week is stopping Chubb.“We know that’s their emphasis right now and that’s what they’re going to try to attack us with because that’s our perceived weakness right now,” defensive end Carlos Dunlap said.SERIES-LY ONE-SIDEDThe Bengals have won seven in a row against the Browns, the longest winning streak by either team in the intrastate series. The Bengals have won the last seven by 30, 21, 34, 14, 13, 24 and 24 points. The Bengals are 7-1 against Browns rookie quarterbacks under Lewis, who is in his 16th season. The only loss was 34-24 at Cleveland in 2012 behind Brandon Weeden.ONE, TWONot only are the Browns hoping to avoid infamy with their 26th straight road loss, they’re trying to start a winning “streak.”Cleveland hasn’t won two straight games since 2014, when the Browns reeled off three in a row while improving to 6-3 under then-coach Mike Pettine. That seems like an eternity ago for the Browns, who have gone 8-56-1 since that modest run.“Any time a team (starts) to win a couple in a row, it builds momentum, it builds belief and that can have a positive impact on your team,” right guard Kevin Zeitler said. “It’d be real nice if we can get that going.”PLAYOFFS?While the game has significance for Cincinnati’s playoff hopes, the Browns aren’t yet finished ruminating about the postseason. They’d likely have to win their last six games to end a playoff drought dating to 2002.“If you can’t and don’t believe that we can make a playoff run, then you’re on the wrong team,” cornerback T.J. Carrie said. “And I feel like from that standpoint we all have that feeling and that emotion about we can definitely do something very special and we’re capable of doing it.” Forget about the Browns making the playoffs. In case there was any doubt https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Howard-Wilson-Jersey , Cleveland is not a playoff team, with today’s 38-24 loss to the Cardinals cementing the Browns’ status as perhaps this season’s most disappointing team. For all their offseason hype, the Browns are now 6-8, and although they’re not mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, they have no real chance of making the postseason. The Cardinals are, at 4-9-1, not going anywhere either. But today Kenyan Drake had a very big game, topping 100 rushing yards and scoring four touchdowns, and the Cardinals dominated the Browns. It had to be a special game for Drake, not just for those four touchdowns, but because he hadn’t won yet this year: He started the season with the Dolphins, who were 0-6 when they traded him to the Cardinals, and he had lost all of his games in a Cardinals uniform until today.Cardinals rookie quarterback Kyler Murray was very effective both passing and running, and the Browns sometimes left plenty of room for Drake to run up the middle because they were so concerned about Murray running to the outside. Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury has not had a particularly successful first season, but you can see where he’s laying the groundwork for a good offense going forward. The same can’t be said for first-year Browns coach Freddie Kitchens, who is undoubtedly on the hot seat. The Browns’ offense was supposed to be a whole lot better this year. Today’s loss sealed the Browns’ fate, and Kitchens has just two more games to prove he deserves a second year as the head coach in Cleveland.

birthday. Though the two Green Bay Packers were born 11 years apart Marquez Valdes-Scantling Jersey , they have become focal points of the team’s offense, one earning a pair of MVP awards and the other holding the distinction of being the NFL’s most efficient running back so far in 2018.On Sunday, neither one played up to those lofty descriptions, as the Packers inexplicably lost to the 2-9 Arizona Cardinals at home. Then, a few hours later, the two got what was likely a bittersweet birthday present: head coach Mike McCarthy was fired.McCarthy has taken heat for the way he has managed Jones, perhaps more than any other single issue this season. Between failing to work him into the featured running back role early enough and going long stretches of games without giving him the football (one tough in the second quarter on Sunday after ten in the first), that has been one of the biggest complaints Packers fans have had with the former head man.Of course, it was the deterioration of the offense’s overall production and Aaron Rodgers’ success as a passer that were probably the two biggest reasons that Mark Murphy relieved McCarthy of his duties. A Rodgers-led offense should never rank 26th in the league in converting third downs. And it certainly should never lose when favored by two touchdowns at home against one of the worst — if not the worst — team in the NFL.Now, McCarthy is gone. Murphy will reportedly be deciding on the next head coach, with general manager Brian Gutekunst providing substantial input rather than making the decision himself. It’s a lot to take in, but let’s try to make some sense of it on this bizarre Monday morning.Packers ‘not good enough’ to beat Cardinals | Packers.comAfter McCarthy got the axe last night, it's almost easy to forget the loss earlier in the day that precipitated the move. Here's a look back at that game before we begin to fully look forward.Green Bay Packers coaching search: Packers could go two ways with hire | Packersnews.comThe two paths envisioned here involve either someone with NFL or major college head-coaching experience, or a young and creative offensive mind. But a couple of names actually fit both criteria.Michael Cohen: How and why the Packers parted ways with Mike McCarthy – The AthleticIt's clear that Gutekunst supports this move; otherwise it would not have been made so quickly after this abysmal performance. Both Murphy and interim coach Joe Philbin will speak to the media this afternoon, starting at 1:45 PM Central.30 candidates Packers may consider to replace Mike McCarthy | The Packers WireOur Jason Hirschhorn threw five names out there overnight. If you want a look at just about every possibility, here's a much broader list of ideas.Mike McCarthy era ends in Green Bay during thirteenth season - NFL.comMike Silver notes that the timing of the move allows the Packers to get a head start on finding McCarthy's replacement. If the team is interested in any college coaches (*cough* Lincoln Riley), the time off before bowl games would make for an ideal interview period.Darts has a farting controversy Jimmy Graham Color Rush Jersey , and nobody agrees who smelt it or dealt it - SBNation.comHere's a lighter story to give you a laugh in light of everything going on in Green Bay. This story stinks, but still not as badly as the Packers' third-down offense does. SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — After a four-turnover performance last week, San Francisco 49ers quarterback C.J. Beathard faces quite a platform in a try for redemption.Beathard will lead his team into Lambeau Field for Monday night’s game against the Green Bay Packers, a nationally televised matchup that represents the biggest stage on which Beathard will have started an NFL game. He’ll face the No. 2 pass defense in the league while being supported by a banged-up offensive line and an injury-depleted receiving corps. The 49ers also figure to be without top running back Matt Breida, doubtful because of a badly sprained ankle.Factor in a raucous and inhospitable Lambeau crowd, and the odds appear stacked against San Francisco (1-4), which lost at home last week to the previously winless Arizona Cardinals.Beathard prefers to view it as an opportunity.“It’s definitely something to look forward to,” Beathard said. “A Monday night game, in Lambeau. Historic stadium, playing a great team. It’s everything you ask for.”A second-year quarterback out of Iowa, Beathard has made two starts in place of the injured Jimmy Garoppolo, who tore the ACL in his left knee Sept. 23 against Kansas City and is out for the season.Beathard showed promise in his first start, a 29-27 road defeat to the Los Angeles Chargers, completing 23 of 37 passes for 298 yards, despite absorbing some big hits in and out of the pocket. But in last week’s 28-18 loss to the Cardinals, Beathard was intercepted twice and lost two fumbles https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Muhammad-Wilkerson-Jersey , one of them returned for a touchdown. That offset his two touchdown passes and career-high 349 yards through the air.Overall in two starts, Beathard has completed 57 of 91 passes (62.6 percent) for 647 yards with four touchdowns and four interceptions.Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy knows the challenge a young quarterback faces in trying to fill the shoes of an injured starter. Last season, Brett Hundley endured a turbulent ride for the Packers replacing two-time league MVP Aaron Rodgers, who broke his collarbone.“I think the biggest thing with a backup quarterback and especially when he’s young — going through it last year — is his ability to keep the offense playingto the full menu of the game plan,” McCarthy said. “You look at their production and you have to say C.J. definitely does that. That’s a compliment to him but also a compliment to their coaching staff for having the young man ready.”San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan wants Beathard to show better pocket awareness, sensing where the pass rush is coming from and protecting the ball. Both of Beathard’s fumbles Sunday came on strip-sacks, and Green Bay (2-2-1) enters this weekend ranked fifth in the NFL with 16 sacks. But Beathard could benefit from better health among his offensive teammates.Left tackle Joe Staley and center Weston Richburg have been playing through knee injuries. Both missed Thursday’s practice, as did Breida, and receivers Pierre Garcon (shoulder, knee) and Trent Taylor (back). Rookie receiver Dante Pettis, the team’s best punt returner, will miss his second consecutive game with a knee injury. There was a bit of encouraging news Thursday in that receiver Marquise Goodwin — the 49ers’ best downfield threat and who starts opposite Garcon — practiced without restrictions after being limited most of the season with quadriceps and hamstring issues.Beathard was asked about matching up against Rodgers. He spoke glowingly of Rodgers, who is hobbled by a knee injury but remains a master at dissecting opposing defenses.“He’s just a baller,” Beathard said. “He’s got the quickest release, the craziest arm I’ve ever seen. It just looks like he’s throwing a Nerf ball out there.”

You might find an answer to the debate here. EDTShareTweetShareShareComparing wide receivers based on the round they were draftedPhoto by Tom Pennington/Getty ImagesFollowing a suggestion by Stampede Blue member “ColtsLine”, I analyzed wide receiver statistics and compared them according to what round they were selecting on, taking into account the last 3 Drafts.Analyzing receivers based on round selected1st RoundersCatchesYardsTouchdownsGP1st RoundersCatchesYardsTouchdownsGPThe chart shows that over the last 3 seasons, receivers selected in the first round have failed to live up to their game-changer potential. Guys like Calvin Ridley and Mike Williams look set to develop nice careers but they are nowhere near the elite status of guys like Julio Jones, OBJ or DeAndre Hopkins. There are also several big time busts, like Corey Coleman, Laquon Treadwell, or John Ross. Overall the results of drafting a wideout in the first round have been rather disappointing. If one goes deeper, then the class of wide receivers drafted in the first round gets drastically better, guys like A.J Green, OBJ, DeAndre Hopkins, or Julio, have been drafted in the first round. However, over the past 7 drafts there have been much more busts than elite receivers selected in the first. For every DeAndre Hopkins there are two Kevin Whites or Laquon Treadwells. The second round, however, is a whole different story. Posting the best average season, the second round wide-receivers boasts game-altering players like JuJu Smith-Schuster and Michael Thomas. Also the second round has valuable players such as Sterling Shepard or Tyler Boyd. Looking at the chart, the second round might be the best spot to draft wide receivers. Looking at the best receivers, the common denominator seems to be that receivers with a great combine shoot up draft boards and end up being drafted way ahead of where they should have been (Guys like Dorsett Tyquan Lewis Jersey , Ross, etc.) and receivers with average combines drop on draft boards just because they run one tenth of a second slower. This is the main reason why DK Metcalf poses plenty of risk, and prospects like JJ Arcega-Whiteside make much more sense to me.As for the third round, the results were quite uninspiring. While you do have solid receivers like Cooper Kupp and Kenny Golladay, there was also a guy named Carlos Henderson, who never played a single snap in the NFL and is now bouncing around the League, or ArDarius Stewart, who has an astonishing 6 catches in 15 games played. The third round seemed like the boom or bust round for me. This seems to be the round were franchises take a big swing and try to land a high risk/high reward type of player. Perhaps a player with one glaring weakness but also a couple of elite traits.Another factor that repeated itself, and that could be worth researching for another article, is how much the 40 yard dash matters when you are a wide receiver. Many times it seemed like the difference between being a 1st, or 3rd round pick was exclusively your 40 time, which just seems stupid. Every NFL franchise should know by now that speed does not make elite receivers. You can run like Usain Bolt, but if the player cannot run a proper route-tree or cannot catch contested balls or passes not thrown right into their hands, then the player won’t be successful in the NFL. All in all, the point of not drafting a wide receiver in the first round, as it usually does not pan out, makes plenty of sense, as there are still plenty of valuable prospects in the later rounds, but if I learnt anything compiling the chart, is that wide receivers are extremely hard to analyze coming out of college. This might be the riskiest position to Draft besides quarterback Ryan Grant Color Rush Jersey , as there is never a sure-fire pick, and more often than not, the receiver fails to live up to expectations. The Indianapolis Colts already have had one surprise retirement thanks to Andrew Luck deciding to step away. If the NFL's oldest player and career scoring leader keeps missing the uprights, Luck might not be the only player put on the reserve/retired list this year.Adam Vinatieri continued his struggling start to his 24th season Sunday, missing not one but two extra points in a 19-17 win over the Tennessee Titans. Only the Titans failing to convert on fourth-and-2 at the Indianapolis 45 in the final seconds kept Tennessee from at least attempting a field goal to cost the Colts their first win.The 46-year-old Vinatieri didn't talk after the game with his locker empty quickly.Indianapolis coach Frank Reich insisted he wasn't worried about Vinatieri."I have zero concern," Reich said. "I mean, he hit the upright on the one. You probably saw the first one. It was not a good operation. The snap and hold was not clean. I've held for kicks. The ball was barely on the ground, it was not clean. ... Zero concern."Colts owner Jim Irsay differed, saying Vinatieri's mechanics are an issue."Yeah, it's a concern," Irsay told The Indianapolis Star. "We'll talk and try to take emotion out of big decisions."Vinatieri struggled in the Colts' overtime loss to the Chargers in the opener, missing his first extra point of the season to the right. Then he missed his first field goal attempt left, and he pulled a 29-yarder to the left in the second half. That was the first time that Vinatieri had missed two field goals and an extra point in the same game and only the seventh time he had missed a field goal inside 30 yards.Against the Titans (1-1), Vinatieri hit his first extra point for a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. He missed on his second extra point midway through the second quarter after Jacoby Brissett's second touchdown pass of the game. That left the Colts with a 13-7 lead.Vinatieri missed his second extra point with 4:38 left after Brissett had capped a 69-yard drive with a 4-yard TD pass to T.Y. Hilton, leaving the Colts ahead only 19-17. Vinatieri's kick clanked off the right upright, and the kicker bent over before walking back to the sideline. The Titans had kicking woes of their own, with Cairo Santos, signed to fill in until veteran Ryan Succop heals up enough to come off injured reserve, missing a 45-yarder in the fourth quarter. But Santos now is with his sixth different NFL team.Vinatieri is a four-time Super Bowl champ and three-time All-Pro kicker in his 24th season. He made every extra point he tried in 13 of those seasons and never missed more than three in any previous season. Now the kicker who turns 47 on Dec. 28 is just 2 of 5 on extra points and 1 of 3 on field goals through the first two games. Clearly not the standard Vinatieri has set for himself.Follow Teresa M. Walker at www.twitter.com/teresamwalker

  • The Seattle Seahawks have some big Datum21.01.2020 07:13

decisions to make before the 2019 season opens. Not only does budding star Frank Clark need a new contract Mychal Kendricks Jersey , but building blocks Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner will have extensions in mind. The Seahawks have a tad under $55M in cap space, so GM John Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll should have the wiggle room to construct the roster as they see fit this offseason. Though Wagner and Wilson are the two most important pieces on the roster, for now, the focus remains on those approaching free agency in March. There are 14 players on Seattle’s roster who are on expiring deals (per Over the Cap), and those players are: Earl Thomas, K.J. Wright, Justin Coleman, Shamar Stephen, Sebastian Janikowski, Dion Jordan, Neiko Thorpe, J.R. Sweezy, D.J. Fluker, Mike Davis, Frank Clark, Mychal Kendricks, Maurice Alexander and Brett Hundley. There’s a trio of players who, for this exercise, will be presumed as gone or not in the Seahawks’ plans: Earl Thomas, Sebastian Janikowski and Mychal Kendricks. Thomas is self-explanatory, Janikowski is heading into his age-41 season and coming off an average year, and Kendricks’ sentence being delayed all but ends his hopes of playing in 2019. A fourth player, Clark, will also be excluded from this exercise. Whether it’s the franchise tag or an extension, Clark is not going anywhere this offseason. That leaves us with 10 players Steve Largent Color Rush Jersey , who will be split into three groups: Likely to be retained, unlikely to be retained, and anyone’s best guess. Let’s get into it:Likely to be retainedJustin Coleman A preseason trade for Coleman prior to the 2017 season bailed Seattle out as Jeremy Lane devolved from bad contract to liability. Since making the nickel spot his own, Coleman has looked like the Seahawks’ best corner at times, particularly early in the 2018 season. Coleman’s playing time went up-and-down over the final stretch of 2018, as Pete Carroll and Seattle experimented with big nickel looks, giving Delano Hill some of Coleman’s snaps. Nickel corners are starters in the modern NFL, and need to be valued as such. Carroll has identified his two cornerstones on the outside, and should make sure the trio is rounded out with Coleman. Approximate deal: In October, I wrote about an extension for Coleman in regards to the bar being set for a nickel corner by Bobby McCain’s new contract at $6.75M per year, with $13M guaranteed. Since then, the Dolphins deployed McCain as an outside corner, perhaps why he set such a high standard prior to the season. A deal in the $4.5M-$6M range for Coleman seem right. Neiko Thorpe The Seahawks’ special teams captain battled injuries all season, but made his biggest play of the season—while injured—in the Wild Card round. Carroll and Seattle give special teams as much respect as any franchise outside of the Patriots, and without much of a market for Thorpe, he should be retained. Approximate deal: After establishing himself as a core special teamer with the Seahawks, Thorpe signed a two-year, $3.5M deal during the 2017 offseason. Unlikely to ever establish himself on defense, Thorpe should earn close to that on a new deal. D.J. Fluker For a while, it seemed as though Fluker was going to price himself out of Seattle’s future, as he began the season playing great football. Then, injuries and strong play from Jordan Simmons in relief made it seem as though Fluker wouldn’t be in their plans for a completely different reason. By season’s end, it seemed as though Fluker’s stock had settledabout where it was prior to the season—aided by the way in which Carroll spoke of his fit within the culture. A favorite of Mike Solari’s, and a proper Seahawk, Fluker should be brought back.Approximate deal: Fluker played in 2018 on a one-year deal with a cap hit just over $1.3M. With his fit and value more clear Patrick Kerney Color Rush Jersey , Fluker should see a bump in average per year, and contract length. Three years—taking him to age 30—with an APY in the $2.5M-$4M range would be a good deal for player and team. J.R. SweezyBrought back in training camp following his release from the Buccaneers, Sweezy not only made the team despite being injured throughout August, but started 15 games. Sweezy has already received his big payday in the NFL, and is back in a place where he’s comfortable. I would imagine he’s eager to stay put. Approximate deal: Assuming both player and team are happy to run it back another season, Sweezy could return on a deal similar to the one he played under in 2018: $1.5M with incentives that could push it to $2M. Brett HundleySeattle dealt a sixth-round selection for the former Packers backup, after both Austin Davis and Alex McGough failed to impress in preseason. Hundley didn’t do anything to create a market for himself in free agency, and having dealt a pick for him, one would imagine the Seahawks would like to bring him back—at least to compete with Paxton Lynch and give themselves a couple options behind Russell Wilson. Approximate deal: Hundley was paid a modest $705,000 last season as Wilson’s backup. If Hundley returns in 2019, it will be at a cap charge below $1M, and it will be without guarantees. Unlikely to be retainedShamar StephenWhen covering Seattle’s UDFA class last spring, I expressed my expectation for Stephen to be beaten out by Poona Ford for a roster spot. Both ended up on the roster, with Tom Johnson the (eventual) odd man out. Stephen was serviceable and Carroll spoke highly of him, but the sentiment from last spring remains: Stephen was a stop-gap solution, and Ford is more than capable of filling that role now. It’s certainly possible Stephen returns to provide depth at defensive tackle, but the Seahawks should look elsewhere for that depth. Stephen was paid a hair over $2M last season—Seattle can find his contributions for cheaper in the draft or rookie free agency. Dion JordanThe Seahawks were counting on Jordan to repeat his pleasantly surprising 2017 in 2018, and he was unable to do so. Injuries once again reared their ugly head, with Jordan missing all of preseason and four regular season games. In 12 games, Jordan collected just 1.5 sacks. Like Stephen, it’s possible Jordan is brought back for depth—or as a camp body—but I would expect for his roster spot to go to a legitimate contributor. Mike DavisCredit where credit is due: Davis rose above a crowded backfield to be an asset to Seattle in 2018, filling the 3rd down role and as a reliever on early downs. However, with Rashaad Penny and Chris Carson firmly in the team’s plans, Davis would be returning to the Seahawks as the clear third choice—after his best season to date, would he accept that Germain Ifedi Color Rush Jersey , or would he look for an expanded role elsewhere? I would imagine the latter.Maurice AlexanderFollowing an injury riddled August, Alexander was brought back to Seattle in October after being released during final cuts. Alexander never really carved out a place on the roster, with fellow safety Shalom Luani arriving via trade following Alexander’s release. (Alexander dressed for nine games; Luani 12). Luani, an exclusive rights free agent, will likely be brought back at a lower cost. Alexander may be brought back as a camp body with no guarantees on his deal, but not before he’s allowed to test free agency. Anyone’s best guessK.J. WrightBobby Wagner has made it clear he wants his running mate to return to the Seahawks in 2019. Wright made it clear with his play from Week 16 onwards, he has something left in the tank. Whether that leads to Seattle’s longest tenured player being given a third contract remains to be seen. Wright is entering his age-30 season and coming off a deal which paid him $6.75M APY. While there is no clear successor on the roster, the Seahawks should continue to search for one this offseason, and have expressed to Shaquem Griffin an expanded role is on the horizon. That could mean Wright isn’t in the team’s plans at all, or that he could be, at the right price for a year or two. If Wright were to return, he would surely need to take a pay cut from his previous deal. A one- or two-year deal around $5M per year, with guarantees only in the first year, would be a good deal for Seattle. It would afford them more time to find Wright’s eventual replacement, and give Wright a chance to put a healthy season together as he pushes for a final sizable contract. The biggest priority for the Seahawks this offseason is finalizing an extension for Clark, and that will surely get wrapped up before free agency opens. After that, Seattle will have some challenging decisions to make, but more than enough cap space to make them. The Seattle Seahawks appear to be set to take that idea to extremes at certain positions in 2019, however, with another season set to be marked by an continued influx of fresh, young faces. Gone are the years dominated by the core of the Legion of Boom, players who spent the better part of the soon to be ended decade Marshawn Lynch Color Rush Jersey , aiding in the transition from a team that went 4-12 in back-to-back seasons to a team that went to back-to-back Super Bowls. I looked at the youth of the Hawks defensive backfield last week, and how special teams ace Neiko Thorpe is the longest tenured member of that group, but what other positions are young and new to the Seahawks? For starters, the running back group is extremely young, even by NFL standards. With the departure of Mike Davis (26 years old) to the Chicago Bears, Tre Madden (25 years old) remaining unsigned as a free agent and J.D. McKissic (25 years old) being reassigned as a “return specialist”, there is not a single running back on the Hawks roster who is 25. That is set to change on Monday, when 2016 third round draft pick and longest tenured Seattle running back C.J. Prosise will celebrate his birthday, but for now every single back on the roster is 24 or younger. That includes Chris Carson (will turn 25 in September)Adam Choice (listed as 23 on Seahawks roster, with a birthday that is in late November or early December)Rashaad Penny (turned 23 in February)Bo Scarbrough (will turn 23 in September)Travis Homer (can’t even legally drink yet and will turn 21 the day before the Hawks’ first preseason game in August).Basically, long gone is the time when the Seahawks had someone, anyone, in the running back room was a highly experienced veteran who had been in the league for years. Even after the retirement of Marshawn Lynch following the 2015 season, the Hawks had running backs over 25 on the roster, including names like Christine Michael, Marcel Reece, C.J. Spiller and Eddie Lacy.Another position where they have traditionally been manned by established veterans, is along the defensive line. It was not that long ago that youngsters like Frank Clark were having trouble earning playing time behind the likes of Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril, however that has most definitely changed. As of right now the longest tenured defensive lineman on the Seahawks is defensive tackle Jarran Reed, who is still on his rookie contract. On the outside of the defensive line, the defensive end who has been with the team the longest is Branden Jackson, who hasn’t even been with the team for two full seasons since being signed to the team’s practice squad in late September of 2017. In short, the 2019 version of Seattle’s roster is slated to be very young at some positions, and the camp battles for jobs come August should be highly intriguing. Now we simply have to wait through the slow summer doldrums of June and July until training camp arrives.

At least to the mock drafts done by those who are among the most well-connected NFL insiders. That’s why I found it significant that in their Monday morning mock drafts both Peter King [Football Morning in America] and Albert Breer [Monday Morning Quarterback] came up with the identical first round choices for the New York Giants. Both King and Breer have the Giants selecting Kentucky edge rusher Josh Allen No. 6 overall, then dipping into the quarterback pool to get Duke quarterback Daniel Jones with their second pick. King has the Giants actually trading down from 17 to 23 [with the Houston Texans] to make the move White Dalvin Tomlinson Jerseys , while Breer has the pick coming at 17.If you don’t want the Giants to select Jones — or any quarterback — at No. 6, the scenarios in the mocks by King and Breer are ones you should be rooting for. There are no trades in Breer’s mock, but he has the New York Jets selecting Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver at No. 3. That leaves one of the three premier defenders who could convince Giants GM Dave Gettleman to wait at least one pick on a quarterback — Quinnen Williams of Alabama, Devin White of LSU and Allen, on the board with three picks to go. Allen is the one who remains, the Giants snap him up, and figure out a way to get their quarterback with the second pick.Breer writes: Breer picks Jones at 17 and offers a cautionary note that agrees with something I have been hearing as well:King’s scenario unfolds exactly the same way at No. 6. The Jets select Oliver and Allen slides to the Giants, giving them the edge pass rusher they seek. King writes:King gets Jones with the 23rd pick Dalvin Tomlinson Jerseys 2019 , having moved 17 to the Texans and getting a second-round pick (55th overall) to boot. If Jones is the apple of Gettleman’s eye here moving down and banking on him being available is risky business. Still, if he can get Jones and add a second-round pick in what he considers a draft “thick” in talent through the first four rounds you know he would love to do that. Every year at this time, one or more General Managers wade into the debate regarding whether teams draft based on need, or whether they take the best available players. On Thursday, Giants G.M. Dave Gettleman attempted to navigate that verbal minefield.“I’m just telling you: I’m not going to force a pick,” Giants G.M. Dave Gettleman said, via Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com. “You can’t draft for need. You’ll get screwed every time. You’ll make a mistake.”Gettleman added that he’ll make no exceptions, even when it comes to quarterback. And that’s fine. That’s fair. But it’s not realistic.Whether a team intends to do it or not White Wayne Gallman Jerseys , the assessment of the best available players always is influenced at some level by need. The qualitative, subjective nature of the process is conducive to that type of reverse engineering, where the needs necessarily influence the assessment of the best available players. And then, when a team drafts for need, it can claim that it’s taking the best available players. And why shouldn’t a team draft for need? That’s one of the benefits of the process. And if a team needs to move up or down the board to better match draft position, need, and overall value, so be it.It nevertheless makes sense for guys like Gettleman to claim that they don’t draft for need. That way Wayne Gallman Jerseys 2019 , they can always claim victory when it comes to compiling the best possible draft class, without putting excessive pressure on a guy who otherwise would be expected to immediately address an area of urgency and, in turn, would feel more pressure to perform. It also makes sense for guys like me to say that, no matter what the G.M. says, need necessarily influences the process. The assessment of best available talent always takes need into account, consciously or not.

regarding where Tom Brady currently ranks among all quarterbacks. The debate regarding where he fits among all quarterbacks in league history has Chase Winovich Jersey Draft , for the most part, been settled. It definitely has been settled for Hall of Famer Joe Namath.“I would have to say the he’s the best at answering the challenge there ever was, yes,” Namath told Howard Stern when asked whether Brady is the best quarterback to ever play the game. “I’ve not seen anybody have that many big games and answer the challenge as well as he has.”It’s not easy, to say the least Chase Winovich NFL Jersey , to compare quarterbacks from different teams, different systems, different eras, etc. But Brady has six Super Bowl wins — two more than the high-water mark set by Joe Montana and the original TB12, Terry Bradshaw. Brady also continues to defy Father Time Chase Winovich NFL Draft , playing at a high level into his 40s, with no sign of slowing down.Even if some would put Brady near the bottom of the current top 10 in what is a golden age of great quarterbacking, he’s still in the top 10 as he closes in on 42. Which is an astounding accomplishment. When Jon Gruden returned to coaching a year ago, he complained loudly about the “genius” who decided to give coaches less contact with players in the offseason. A year later, the Raiders aren’t taking advantage of all their available offseason practice days. The Raiders have become the latest team to cancel the final day of their offseason program. The Raiders called off their third day of a mandatory minicamp Chase Winovich Buffalo Bills Jersey , Scott Bair of NBCSportsBayArea.com reports. No practice. No walk-through. No media availability.Instead, the Raiders are done for the offseason, meeting again next month in Napa, California, for training camp.Gruden said on in February of 2018 that he would deal with the NFL’s restrictive offseason workout rules by complaining about them. But by canceling the final day of minicamp Color Rush Chase Winovich Jersey , his complaints now fall hollow. The Patriots, for the second consecutive year, canceled their final two days of organized team activities after coach Bill Belichick complained in March about not having enough time to work with players. The rules of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, implemented under the new agreement in 2011, significantly limited the amount of contact coaches can have with players throughout the offseason and cut back on the number Youth Chase Winovich Jersey , and type, of workouts teams could have.If owners attempt to add more time to the offseason program during current CBA negotiations, all the NFLPA has to do is point to teams not taking advantage of all their days.

He was carted off the field. After practice head coach Adam Gase expressed pessimism about the injury.Qvale was slated as the likely primary backup at both tackle spots. If the injury is as serious as it sounds, third round pick Chuma Edoga could end up filling that role. From a purely on field perspective I’m not sure this will have a major impact on the 2019 Jets season. Qvale’s level of play has never been high. The Jets likely could sign a free agent off the street capable of providing a comparable performance. From a human perspective it’s terrible to hear of something like this. Hopefully this injury is not actually as bad as it appears right now. Qvale is surprisingly one of the longest tenured members of the Jets having first signed with the team in 2014. So, the quarterback worked with friend and mentor Jordan Palmer on fixing his motion by using a high-tech football designed by Wilson that gathered performance-based data to show that Darnold gained no extra velocity or distance from dropping his arm a little lower. in Super Bowl LIII Discount Armon Watts Jersey , it’s fair to ask whether the Rams will keep quarterback Jared Goff beyond the expiration of his rookie deal. Especially given that Goff’s remaining contract matches the duration of another contract that, once expired, could attract the attention of Rams coach Sean McVay.Goff has one season left on his base deal, plus an option year for 2020. Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins has two years remaining on a three-season, $84 million contract. Maybe, just maybe, the Rams will decide after Goff’s deal expires to let him walk away — and to embrace Cousins.McVay worked with Cousins in Washington, and McVay continues to have a high opinion of Cousins’ abilities. With Goff playing well enough during McVay’s first year in L.A. to make keeping the 2016 first-rounder around a no-brainer, McVay’s team never was in the market for Cousins. Two years from now, McVay may feel very differently. He already may feel differently now, after digesting Goff’s performance on Sunday. The most immediate question for the Rams as it relates to Goff comes at the May 3 the deadline for picking up his fifth-year option. If the Rams do Dalvin Cook Jersey , Goff will be under contract through 2020, at a base salary of more than $22 million for the last year of his contract. The Rams then can decide whether to extend Goff or to find someone else, whether through the draft or via Cousins’ next foray into free agency. EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — After finishing one game short of the Super Bowl last season and spending big to make Kirk Cousins their franchise player, the Minnesota Vikings were surrounded by high expectations from the start. That championship chase simply never picked up any steam.“It wasn’t what we wanted, what our fan base wanted. It’s OK to be disappointed. I think, if anything, it will sharpen us and give us an edge as we prepare for next year, and I think that’s a good thing,” said Cousins, who signed a three-year Alan Page Jersey , fully guaranteed, $84 million contract to become the fourth primary quarterback in four seasons for Minnesota.By losing 24-10 at home to Chicago on Sunday, the Vikings fell out of the second wild-card spot in the NFC that was claimed by Philadelphia. They missed the playoffs for the third time in five years under coach Mike Zimmer. They won the NFC North in 2015 and 2017 by finishing 11-5 and 13-3 respectively, but their records in the even-numbered seasons were 7-9, 8-8 and now 8-7-1.“Every year’s a new year. That’s just how this league works. You’re going to have new guys. There’s going to be different coaches,” said wide receiver Adam Thielen. “You have to learn how to win with whatever you’ve got out there, so we’re going to go back to work and try to figure that out.”Cousins will be back, of course. His megadeal has already dictated that. His uneven performance in the four losses by the Vikings over the last seven weeks of the season, at New England and Seattle and twice to the Bears, has raised questions about his big-game ability. Cousins finished with career highs in touchdown passes (30) and completion percentage (70.1). The offensive line was largely in flux in front of him, and the Vikings finished with the third-fewest rushing yards in the NFL.Thielen and Stefon Diggs became the seventh set of teammates with 100-plus receptions each and the first Vikings duo since Randy Moss and Cris Carter in 2000 with 1 http://www.thevikingslockerroom.com/authentic-brett-favre-jersey ,000-plus receiving yards apiece. Butthe offense was not good enough to complement a defense that was still top tier despite more lapses than last year, let alone take over a game in the clutch.Zimmer fired offensive coordinator John DeFilippo with three games to go. Whether interim replacement Kevin Stefanski gets the job in 2019 or the Vikings go outside the organization, the new play caller will have to find a better way to keep Thielen, Diggs and running back Dalvin Cook from being neutralized somuch. The Vikings were seventh in the league in rushing in 2017 under offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur while also using a more effective mix of play-action, bootleg and screen passes with quarterback Case Keenum.“If we did have it figured out, then we wouldn’t be in here today talking about what could have been,” running back Latavius Murray said on Monday. “I think at times we played well and showed how good we can be, but then we mostly didn’t play good enough.”The schedule for 2019 sure doesn’t promise any respite. Five of their eight road games will be against playoff teams: the Bears, naturally, and Cowboys, Chiefs Womens Stefon Diggs Jersey , Chargers and Seahawks. That quintet has a combined record of 56-24.With the 18th selection in the first round, they will have their highest draft pick since 2015, when they took cornerback Trae Waynes at 11th overall. That’s another opportunity to bolster the offensive line that was again a significant problem after some improvement in 2017. One bright spot was the development of rookie right tackle Brian O’Neill, the second-round choice out of Pittsburgh who replaced Rashod Hill in the starting lineup. But the status of guards Tom Compton and Mike Remmers is tenuous.Murray will be the most prominent unrestricted free agent on the offense when the next league year begins in March. But with contracts expiring for linebacker Anthony Barr and defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson there are pressing issues for the front office on the other side of the ball as well. Then there’s the matter of the special teams, which were problematic. Kicker Dan Bailey will also become an unrestricted free agent, and he didn’t fare well enough after replacing rookie Daniel Carlson to ensure a return.Zimmer, now tied for the fifth-longest tenure in the NFC, will be back. The Vikings scheduled his season-ending news conference for Thursday.“He’s going to tell you how it is whether you like it or not,” cornerback Xavier Rhodes said. “He’s going to try to find ways to win, so he’s the guy.”

We certainly want him a part of what we’re doing moving forward.”Jones, a second-round pick of the Packers in 2017, was one of only three Green Bay rookies to play in all 16 games that season; running back Jamaal Williams and punter Justin Vogel also did. Jones saw action in 13 games in 2018, including five starts. He has one interception, three sacks and 114 total tackles in two seasons with the team.“I think he’s a versatile guy,” LaFleur said of Jones. “He can fill a lot of roles, especially in (defensive coordinator Mike) Pettine’s defense where we’re going to play multiple defensive backs and put these guys all over the place.”By showing up Tuesday, Jones avoids being docked up to $14,775 for skipping one day of mandatory minicamp. Really the one thing that you can see with not only our receiving group but the secondary is those guys are competing with each other and they’re pushing each other to get better. Hockenson. There is nothing wrong with T.J. Hockenson, who is a very athletic tight end who can stretch the field and hold his own in the run game. He’s an exceptional athlete for the position and there is at least some chance he could become an elite player along the lines of a Travis Kelce. Unfortunately for the Lions, there are reasons to question this pick. Tight ends are really more of a luxury position Womens Antonio Morrison Jersey , and most players there don’t make an immediate impact. Even when they do, it’s minimal compared to just about every position group outside of running back. As Justis Mosqueda frequently points out, the return on investment just isn’t there:The Lions need a virtual total rebuild, and tight ends are for teams that are just a piece or two away. This is how bad teams stay bad — after all, the Lions just tried a top-ten pick on a tight end a few years ago when they picked Eric Ebron 10th overall in 2014. Cole Beasley Jerseys 2019 , entering the final years of his contract, coming off his worst season, and just watched his team load up on options at his position.Yet, for some reason, he expects everything to be the same.“In this league, in general, it’s always competition,” McCoy said, via Vic Carucci of the . “I’m a type of guy, I thrive off of having a big name. So when guys come to my team, they’re curious to see, ‘How is LeSean McCoy? Is he still a good player?’ I mean, I’m a dominant player. I think that speaks for itself. But I’ll be in the same role as last year. And I look forward to putting some numbers up and bouncing back from that last season.”He was far from dominant last year, with a career-low 514 rushing yards and three touchdowns. His 3.2 yards per carry average was also the worst of his career.Asked if his numbers were off by such a drastic margin because of a health issue, he replied: “I mean, there were some games I wasn’t right, but overall, it just didn’t work. I’ll just leave it at that. But I look forward to bouncing back this year.”If that’s an attempt to blame the personnel around him, the Bills addressed that, with a massive overhaul of the offense. But that also included his own position, as they brought in still-productive elder Frank Gore White Robert Foster Jerseys , a solid backup in T.J. Yeldon, and spent a third-round pick on Devin Singletary, after parting ways with Chris Ivory.“I think that, if I was the G.M. or the coach, you have two 30-year-old running backs, so you’ve got to eventually prepare for the future, that’s normal, I would do that,” McCoy said. “But there were so many requests for trades for me, people were trying to get me, [the Bills] didn’t make a move. This team here wouldn’t make a move. That shows confidence in that.“I play with confidence, so I don’t let stuff like that move me. The guys in the room, that’s going to help us out. Like Frank, I’m sure, he’ll help us out. He’ll get some play, he’ll make some plays. With the rookie, you know, we’ll try to fit them in there. But I expect to be the main workhorse.”If the Bills were offered anything of value for McCoy, it’s hard to understand why they didn’t take it, if only to get his $6.175 million off the books.Despite all that, McCoy remains confident. For some reason. ORCHARD PARK Robert Foster Jerseys 2019 , N.Y. (AP) — The only time rookie quarterbacks Josh Allen and Sam Darnold got on the field when the Bills faced the Jets a month ago was to shake hands following Buffalo’s lopsided victory. On Sunday, much more is anticipated from both when the two AFC East teams meet in Orchard Park.Allen, drafted seventh overall, will make his third start for Buffalo since missing four games with a sprained right throwing elbow. And the Jets’ Darnold, drafted third, is on track to return since missing three games with a strained right foot. The focus on the two quarterbacks represents one of the few reasons for intrigue in a meeting of teams — Buffalo is 4-8 and the Jets 3-9 — with little on the line entering the final month.Just don’t ask Jets coach Todd Bowles to commit to starting Darnold despite the rookie being a full participant in practice Wednesday and Thursday.“Trying to get him better and getting him healthy, and then we’ll go from there,” Bowles said, when asked if he could satisfy people’s curiosity over who’ll start. “I’m not really looking to making people happy.”The Jets haven’t done much to make anyone happy for plenty of other reasons. In losing six straight, they’ve followed one low point with another, while raising questions over Bowles’ job security. There was New York’s 41-10 loss to the Bills, after which Bowles said: “We stunk it up as coaches, we stunk it up as players.”Then came last weekend, when the Jets squandered a 16-0 lead in a 26-22 loss at Tennessee. Bowles referred to the collapse as “one of them games you’ll remember for the rest of your life.”Continuing Darnold’s development then becomes the priority, much like the Bills’ approach to Allen. Both have had their inconsistencies. In Week 2, Darnold became the NFL’s youngest quarterback to top 300 yards passing in a 20-12 loss to Miami. On the downside, he also leads the league with 14 interceptions, including four in his last start, a 13-6 loss to Miami.Allen was erratic, going 69 of 114 for 657 yards and two touchdowns, with five interceptions and a lost fumble in his first five starts. He has shown signs of progress by going 26 of 52 for 391 yards with three TDs and two interceptions in his past two.Allen is also proving to be an adept scrambler by combining for 234 yards rushing and a touchdown in the past two games.“We’re watching a young man grow and develop right in front of our eyes White Corey Bojorquez Jerseys ,” Bills coach Sean McDermott said. The Jets can only hope for the same once Darnold returns.“Before he got hurt, he was developing. He was seeing the defenses better. He was making his reads. He was making his audibles and checks at the line,” Bowles said. “That part of it we were very pleased with. Some of those things he’ll have to get back.”Here are other things to know when the Jets and Bills square off:BAD MEMORIESThe Jets insist they’ve moved on from the Bills’ loss, a game they trailed 31-3 at the half, and were outgained 451 to 199 yards offense. They haven’t forgotten, however.“Let’s cut to the chase, man — it’s personal,” safety Jamal Adams said. “They came in and they whooped us, man. They don’t like us. We don’t like them.”SPUTTERING JETSThe Jets have scored one or fewer touchdown in a franchise-worst five consecutive games. They’ve also been limited to one field goal on 17 fourth-quarter possessions over their past four games. Eight ended with punts, five with interceptions, two on downs and one missed field goal.Bowles said the blame is on the entire offense, and not simply first-year offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates.“It’s not from a lack of trying or everybody trying,” Bowles said. “It just hasn’t happened and it’s extremely frustrating that we can’t get a touchdown instead of field goals.”IMPROVING BILLSAfter going through three starters in their first nine games, the Bills averaged 248 yards offense and 10.6 points an outing. The past three games, including Matt Barkley’s one start against the Jets, the Bills are averaging 398 yards offense and 27.3 points.Allen said the improvement goes beyond statistics. “It’s the feel that we have. It’s the chemistry in the locker room right now,” he said.RARE TAKEAWAYSThe Jets tied an NFL record by going five straight without forcing a turnover. That drought ended when Trumaine Johnson returned a pass from Tennessee’s Marcus Mariota 31 yards for a touchdown.By comparison, the Jets have the NFL’s fourth-most giveaways (24), one fewer than Buffalo.THE FUTURE IS NOWAfter releasing receivers Kelvin Benjamin and Andre Holmes on Tuesday, the Bills could have as many as five starters on offense with less than two years of NFL experience. Their defense already features four players in their first or second seasons.

Jones at quarterback White Phil Simms Jerseys , the move needs to be unequivocal, unconditional, and irreversible. Otherwise, the development of Jones could suffer. For that reason, it could make sense for the Giants to sever ties with Eli Manning.Earlier today, we suggested a retirement that would entail Manning getting a chunk of the remaining $10.4 million in 2019 base salary. If Manning isn’t interested in that, the Giants should seriously consider simply cutting the cord on Eli and moving on. Even if it means paying him the full amount of the remaining $10.4 million he’s owed.Yes, they screwed up. They should have cut Manning before Week One Phil Simms Jerseys 2019 , avoiding the $11.5 million in base salary that became guaranteed as Termination Pay once the regular season began. But they shouldn’t risk screwing up Daniel Jones by having Eli hovering over Jones’ shoulder as Jones tries to reach his potential as quickly as possible. The Giants already made their $11.5 million mistake by keeping Eli on the team. They will potentially make it worse by keeping Eli around while trying to develop Jones. Absent a clear and complete and unmistakable commitment by Eli to embrace his new role and by the team to not waver and waffle and bench Jones for Eli later in the year, Eli should have no place on the roster, now that the Giants have made Jones the starter.Even if Eli is all in and the team will treat Jones as QB1 and Eli as QB2 with no chance of further flip-flopping, the media, the fans, and certain high-profile members of the Manning family could clamor for Eli to be reinstalled as the team’s quarterback, if Jones struggles. While Jones may have the mental toughness to withstand those catcalls, it would be better for them to not happen at all. They won’t happen if Eli isn’t on the team. The best play for the Giants White Doug Kotar Jerseys , now that the quarterback of the future is the present starter, is to turn a half-measure into a full-blown removal of Eli Manning from the organization. Cowboys defensive tackle Trysten Hill not only showed up late for a meeting Tuesday, but the rookie has drawn the team’s ire for other recent transgressions.Hill fell asleep during a team meeting with NBA Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas last week during the Cowboys’ bye week, Clarence Hill of the reports.Thomas called out Trysten Hill.Hill and defensive tackle Antwaun Woods were sent home without practicing Tuesday after being late for a meeting after the bye. Both are subject to a fine.“I’ve been late less than 3 times in the last 9 years of football. College(5) & NFL (4). Y’all can chill,” Woods posted on Twitter. The Cowboys expected more from Hill when they made him a second-round choice — their top pick after trading their first-rounder to the Raiders for Amari Cooper. They passed on safeties Nasir Adderley, Taylor Rapp and Juan Thornhill to take Hill, who was supposed to be a disruptive pass rusher.Instead, Hill has played only four games Doug Kotar Jerseys 2019 , seeing action on 85 defensive snaps. That’s 18.5 percent of the team’s defensive plays this season. He has one tackle. His inability to get on the field prompted the Cowboys to trade for Michael Bennett with Tyrone Crawford on season-ending injured reserve.“One of the key things when a guy is not up, either you progress or you regress,” Cowboys defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli said last week about Hill. “He has got to come on. I don’t think he was sharp [against the Eagles]. Opportunity comes, and Tyrone Crawford is not up. We expect him to play. I need a guy ready to go and not on his schedule.”

possible tweaks to the pass interference replay rule adopted at league meetings in March and one of the issues they’re dealing with is how to handle Hail Mary plays.Falcons president and Competition Committee chairman Rich McKay said recently that they have been handled as “survival of the fittest” and that “the way that play has been officiated has been different Byron Cowart NFL Draft ,” which creates issues for taking a second look via a replay review.Former Bucs and Colts coach Tony Dungy said on that he was not under the impression during his days on the sideline that those plays were officiated differently. Current Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was asked how he felt about a play being called differently than every other snap during the game.“I think they’re trying to solve problems that are difficult problems,” Belichick said at a Wednesday press conference. “If there was an easy solution, it’d be a five minute meeting. But there’s not, so the Competition Committee and the people in the league and the officials and so forth are trying to figure out the best way to do it. We’ll see what they come up with. I think it’s a tough problem.”Discussions about the pass interference rule involving coaches were set for this week and the Competition Committee is expected to have draft language of any tweaks to address the difficult problems Belichick sees on their table. Running the football has been an adventure for the New England Patriots this season.Injuries and inconsistency were issues early on as the Patriots struggled in short yardage and failed to produce a touchdown in the first three games.Jeremy Hill was lost for the year after he suffered a knee injury in the New England's season opener. Two games later, starter Rex Burkhead hurt his neck in the Patriots' loss to Detroit and was also placed on injured reserve.Buoyed by the production of rookie Sony Michel, who had missed the preseason with his own knee issue, New England scored seven touchdowns on the ground over the next three games. Michel had four of them, to go along with two 100-yard games. But the Patriots' running backs were again held out of the end zone in last week's 38-31 win at Chicago.Production slowed considerably when Michel had to be helped off the field in the second quarter after having his left knee bent back awkwardly while he was being tackled."What happened to Sony ... could happen to anybody at any time Byron Cowart Buffalo Bills Jersey , unfortunately. So, we have to be prepared for those things," Patriots coach Bill Belichick said. "At whatever point the die is cast and we know what it is, we go in that direction."Where that is exactly is to be determined as New England returns to AFC East play Monday night at Buffalo. Following Michel's injury, James White and Kenjon Barner began the week as the only healthy running backs on the roster.White leads the team with 45 receptions and six receiving touchdowns and is the second-leading rusher (40 carries, 189 yards, TD) behind Michel. Barner has 16 carries for 63 yards, but his comfort level in the offense is unclear. This is his third stint with the Patriots this season after being twice released and spending time on the practice squad.White said Barner and current practice squad running back Kenneth Farrow are prepared to contribute as needed."They're good guys Infant Jacob Bailey Jersey ," White said. "They're working hard, trying to learn as much as possible. It can be a lot thrown at you pretty fast, but they're willing to work, ask the questions and they try to go out there and perform on the practice field. You can tell it's showing up for Kenjon in the game. He's running hard, doing everything he needs to do."Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels said he's comfortable having White handle more of the load."I think that comes down to individual execution and that credit goes to James White," McDaniels said. "He's the one that runs the routes, he's the one that makes decisions and cuts in the backfield if you're handing it to him, and he's the one that catches the ball wherever you put him on the field."While White has a subdued demeanor off the field Jacob Bailey Jersey Draft , center David Andrews said he has the confidence of the entire offense when his number is called."Every time he gets the football, I like it a lot," Andrews said.White says he's ready to do whatever is asked of him."It's just taking care of your body and going out there and executing, getting the job done whether it's more touches or not," he said. "I just want to make the most of the opportunities that I get and just have fun out there and play to the best of my abilities."That's all it is. It doesn't matter whether it's 10 touches, one touch, 20 touches. It doesn't really matter. Just go out there and play hard and do whatever I can to help this team."Follow Kyle Hightower on Twitter at ://khightower

FLORHAM PARK White Mark Gastineau Jerseys , N.J. (AP)The big day finally arrived, and Sam Darnold had the perfect plan for celebrating his 21st birthday.”Playing football,” the New York Jets rookie quarterback said with a huge grin. The birthday boy is now officially of the legal drinking age, but Darnold wasn’t expecting to toast the milestone Tuesday night.”Probably not,” he said, smiling. ”I’ll probably just stay in and go to sleep early, like I have been every single night.”Partying is not high on the list for Darnold, who’s the youngest player on the Jets’ roster – and the fresh-faced future of the franchise. The No. 3 overall draft pick out of USC has taken a businesslike approach to his introduction to life in the NFL. Eat, sleep and dream football. Those are Darnold’s days. Every day.”I’m making a ton of strides, but at the same time, I’m not exactly where I want to be,” Darnold said. ”But I know it’s going to take time and it’s a process. I’m aware of that and it’s exciting, though, to understand the playbook the way I am and the strides I’m making. I’m really excited about where I’m going right now.”Darnold will compete with veterans Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater this summer for the starting job, and he’s giving Todd Bowles and his coaching staff plenty to consider early in this offseason. The youngster looked predictably shaky in his first practice of organized team activities two weeks ago, but has appeared increasingly more poised in the sessions open to the media since.”He’s just more comfortable with the playbook and obviously seeing things a couple of times will make you more comfortable,” Bowles said. ”He’s just hard-working. Everything we thought coming in. He’s going to work every day Mark Gastineau Jerseys 2019 , wants to be good, understands the mistakes he makes, works at them night and day, and watches film and asks questions.”At this time of year, that’s what you’re supposed to be doing.”During Tuesday’s practice, Darnold tossed a badly underthrown pass that safety Jamal Adams, last year’s first-rounder, easily intercepted. For a guy who was celebrating his birthday, it was certainly a gift – but for the defense.”Yeah, I just made a bad read on it,” Darnold said. ”I should’ve just dumped it down to the back, but I tried to force one in there.”Rookie mistake.”He retains things when you tell him,” Bowles said. ”He makes mistakes, but doesn’t make the same one twice, so he’s very good from that standpoint as far as retaining information.”Late in practice, though, Darnold had perhaps his prettiest play as a pro. He zipped a deep pass down the sideline that dropped over the reach of safety Kacy Rodgers II and right into Chad Hansen’s hands. It was a terrific throw and a reminder of why so many labeled Darnold as ”special” in the months leading up to the draft. But such is the up-and-down life of a rookie quarterback that Darnold overthrew his final pass of practice on a deep toss to a wide-open Jordan Leggett. There’s no doubt Darnold would be spending part of his birthday night breaking that down in the film room.Darnold’s development has included lots of rewinding and fast-forwarding through plays Youth Wayne Chrebet Jerseys , and dissecting every move. He’s got that type of time now, because football is the only thing that matters these days.”I don’t have class, so I’m spending every single day in the film room or on the practice field,” he said. ”So in regards to that, just being able to spend time watching football and playing football is awesome. To be able to come in here every single day and do it for a living, that’s pretty sweet.”Darnold also recognizes the value of working with McCown and Bridgewater on and off the field.”What makes it really cool is that they’re really good players,” Darnold said. ”They’ve experienced ball and they understand what’s going on on the field all the time, at all times. It’s amazing to be able to learn from them. After that play with Jamal, to be able to talk about it with them is something that is really cool, to be able to do that right after the play and get that feedback.”Darnold has had to make several adjustments since coming to the Jets, including calling plays in the huddle – something he hadn’t done much of at USC. He also says the increased pace of the game is evident, even in practice.”It’s faster, which is what I thought it would be, so it’s been awesome,” he said. ”It’s just been a learning experience, just learning every single day and getting used to it has been awesome.”Darnold says ”awesome” a lot and sounds like a kid who’s happy to be doing what he loves.”You know, no Wayne Chrebet Jerseys Stitched , I don’t feel any different,” a smiling Darnold said of his milestone birthday. ”It’s cool to be 21, but at the same time, I’m just coming here every single day ready for practice. Nothing’s changing for me.”— Their margin for error is completely gone, and with one more loss, the Cleveland Browns can say goodbye to their playoff hopes as well. They may have already.Another demoralizing setback last week in Pittsburgh has left the Browns with no option but to win their final four games — starting with the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday — to have any chance of ending a 17-year postseason drought, the NFL's current longest dry spell.December was supposed to be the Browns' runway to the playoffs. Instead, it might be a dead end.“We have to buckle down and win each game from here on out," said quarterback Baker Mayfield, who suffered a bruised right throwing hand last week. “It is just plain and simple. We can’t have any slip-ups and we have to win.”This season that offered such promise after so many dreadful ones in Cleveland has plummeted, leaving the Browns (5-7) to ponder what might have been.“For everybody there's been a lot of disappointment," said star receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who hasn't had nearly the impact forecast when he arrived via trade in March. “There's areas that we expected more of ourselves, not like we didn't know we were going to have to go out and work for it, but we just expected it, and we were willing to go get it. We just didn't get it."For the Bengals (1-11), there's a glimmer amid gloom.Seemingly on their way to an 0-16 season Infant Jachai Polite Jersey , they ended the longest losing in franchise history last week by beating the New York Jets 22-6. Cincinnati's return to the win column coincided with quarterback Andy Dalton's return to the starting lineup. The veteran was benched three games by first-year coach Zac Taylor, but Dalton put his hurt feelings aside and showed he's still got some magic inside his orange-and-black striped helmet.Dalton's hoping to conjure some more over the final four weeks.“You have to have confidence in yourself," he said. “Confidence is contagious. It’s one of those things where, if you practice well, if you go into the week, guys are in the right spots, you’re talking about everything, you’re giving everyone else confidence that you’re going to get a win on Sunday.“That’s the way I’m going to go about practicing for these last four games and these last four weeks and do whatever we can to make sure guys are feeling good for the games on Sundays.”HANDY MANMayfield's expected to play despite the hand injury, which he sustained when he smashed it on the facemask of a Steelers player last week. The second-year QB didn't throw until Thursday, and said he'd like to play without wearing a glove as he did in the second half on Sunday.Mayfield's had an uneven second season — he led the league in interceptions through seven weeks — but it hasn't changed the Browns feeling that he'll develop into an elite player.“He is a tremendous football player — competitor, smart, tough, has a rare competitive quality and a rare want to be great," said offensive coordinator Todd Monken. “... in my mind, we have the right guy going forward.”ROSS RETURNSWide receiver John Ross returns this week after missing eight games with a shoulder injury, giving the Bengals a much-needed playmaker.Cincinnati has lacked a deep threat most of the season with A.J. Green sidelined by an ankle surgery and Ross can fill the void. He had touchdown catches of 33, 55 and 66 yards in the first two games Jachai Polite Jersey Draft , the start of what he'd hoped was a breakout season.Ross got to work with Dalton on the scout team for two weeks while he was getting back into shape. Games will be a different, but welcomed experience."It's hard to simulate a game during practice because there's only so many things you can do," Ross said. "It's not full-speed tackling and things like that. So I think that's something I'm going to have to adjust to real quick."ROOKIE MATCHUPFor just the second time, the “Battle of Ohio” will feature two rookie coaches with Taylor matched up against Browns coach Freddie Kitchens. The only other time it happened was in 1984, when Cleveland's Marty Schottenheimer was opposite Cincinnati's Sam Wyche, who five years later provided one of the most memorable moments in the rivalry's history when he scolded Bengals fans for throwing objects on the field by reminding them, "You don't live in Cleveland.RISING DEFENSECincinnati's defense is coming off its best three-game stretch of the season, allowing no more than 17 points in any game. The biggest improvement has been on the line, which was shoved around earlier this season. End Carlos Dunlap tied his career high with three sacks of Sam Darnold in last week's breakthrough win. The Bengals are on their fourth defensive coordinator in four years, which contributed to some of the issues earlier this season."We’re settling into each other I think," coordinator Lou Anarumo said. "I’ve had no issues and no complaints with the guys all year. They are executing a whole lot better of late."BAD KARMAA loss would relegate the Bengals to last place alone in the AFC North for the second year in a row. They haven't finished last in consecutive seasons since 2001-02. They've lost 13 of 14 overall and 18 of 20, including nine straight division games since a 34-23 win over Baltimore on Sept 13, 2018.They were swept by the Browns last season, and a loss would give them three straight against Cleveland for the first time since 2001-02.AP Sports Writer Joe Kay in Cincinnati contributed.

against the Green Bay Packers Randy Moss Jersey , the Minnesota Vikings had plenty of opportunities to sneak out of Lambeau Field with the win. Unfortunately, they took advantage of none of them. The 116th regular-season installment of the Border Battle went to the Packers, as they scored touchdowns on their first three possessions and took advantage of a litany of Minnesota errors to hold on for a 21-16 victory. The Vikings found themselves in a significant hole early on, as they allowed the Packers to score touchdowns on their first three possessions. Aaron Rodgers had two first quarter touchdown passes, a 15-yarder to Jamal Williams and a 12-yarder to Geronimo Allison to put the Packers ahead, 14-0. That was followed by a 3-yard run by Aaron Jones on the second play of the second quarter to make the score 21-0, and things had started just about as badly as possible for the Vikings.Dalvin Cook put a stop to all of that. The big 75-yard run by Cook put the Vikings on the scoreboard, cutting the deficit to 21-7.The Vikings appeared to have a three-yard scoring pass from Kirk Cousins to Stefon Diggs near the end of the second quarter, but after a review, an offensive pass interference call took those points off the board. The Vikings had to settle for a 31-yard field goal by Dan Bailey, and went into the locker room trailing, 21-10.Minnesota got the only points of the third quarter, as Cousins hit Diggs on a deep pass for a 45-yard score. Diggs was called for unsportsmanlike conduct after the play, which made Bailey’s extra point attempt a 48-yarder. That attempt was blocked, making the score 21-16 going into the final quarter of play. The Vikings pushed the ball all the way down to the Green Bay 8-yard line with about five minutes remaining, but then Cousins threw an inexcusable interception when trying to hit Stefon Diggs in the end zone. Kevin King picked the ball off, and the Vikings’ threat was squelched. But Cris Carter Jersey , the Vikings’ defense forced a three-and-out, and gave the offense another opportunity to save the day. . .which they responded to with a three-and-out. The Vikings punted it back to Green Bay, who ran out the clock for their second win of the season.Kirk Cousins was, to put it bluntly, awful in this football game. He completed just 14-of-32 passes for 230 yards, threw one touchdown pass, and turned the ball over three times. losing a fumble and throwing two interceptions. He also missed on what would have been another long scoring pass to a wide-open Diggs in the fourth quarter, and was generally just awful all game long. Quarterbacks generally get too much credit when things go well and too much blame when they go bad, but Cousins played as big a role in this loss as anyone on the team.Adam Thielen had five catches for 75 yards on the afternoon to pace the Vikings’ receivers, and Chad Beebe had a 61-yard catch-and-run that set up Bailey’s second quarter field goal. Stefon Diggs had one catch, but it was a 45-yard touchdown.Dalvin Cook had what might have been the best game of his NFL career, as he carried the ball 20 times for 154 yards and his 75-yard score. Alexander Mattison chipped in with 25 yards on four carries as well. The Vikings fall to 1-1 on the season, and they’ll return to U.S. Bank Stadium to host the Oakland Raiders next Sunday. The Packers move to 2-0, and will host the Denver Broncos next Sunday afternoon. The Minnesota Vikings simply shot themselves in the foot too many times on Sunday at Lambeau Field, and as a result come away with a 21-16 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Thank you to everyone that got their coverage of this week’s game right here at The Daily Norseman! LOS ANGELES (AP) — Kirk Cousins was an eager young quarterback and Sean McVay was a precocious offensive coordinator when they got together in Washington. After they collaborated on two tremendously productive seasons, the partnership led to big things for both men: McVay became the NFL’s youngest head coach in Los Angeles, and Cousins got an $84 million contract in Minnesota.“I’m very grateful for having crossed paths with him Chris Doleman Jersey ,” Cousins said. “And I’m always rooting for him. But certainly, though, we want to get the ‘W’ this week.”Indeed, they’re getting back together Thursday night in a compelling early season NFC showdown between McVay’s Rams (3-0) and Cousins’ Vikings (1-1-1).And both say they wouldn’t be there under the Coliseum lights without the other.“I feel fortunate to have worked with Kirk,” McVay said.“Sometimes you hear people talk about not having the strongest arm or whatever, (but) I’m not sure what film they’re watching,” McVay added.“He can make every single throw. I think he has the ability to speed it up with excellent twitch. He can change the launch point. So you’re not limited in any way that you can utilize him. And I couldn’t be happier for Kirk, and I’ll be rooting for him the rest of the year after Thursday night.”Their meeting will be an interesting barometer for both teams’ early season fortunes. The Rams have been largely outstanding during their unbeaten start to a season that has picked up right where McVay’s first team left off.But coach Mike Zimmer’s Vikings defense gave perhaps the most impressive performance of last season against the high-octane Rams, who managed only one early touchdown from Todd Gurley in a 24-7 loss at Minnesota.“We didn’t run the ball as well as we had in other games against this defense,” said Aaron Kromer, the Rams’ running game coordinator. “They’re a stout defense. They’re built to stop the run. That’s their No. 1 goal. … We have to do a much better job. I think we’re a lot smarter football team than we were in the past, so I hope that shows on Thursday night.”More things to watch:WEEKNIGHT PARTYThe Rams realize Thursday afternoon isn’t an ideal time to brave LA traffic for a football game at a stadium undergoing renovation that has severely curtailed its parking and tailgating. So they’re trying to make this important NFC game into a civic duty: McVay sent out a funny “memo” through newspapers and social media to all employers in Los Angeles, urging them to allow their employees to leave work early so they can head downtown for the 5:20 p.m. local start time — which he says is the “typical bedtime” of his 71-year-old defensive coordinator, Wade Phillips. They also got Vanessa Hudgens to sing the national anthem, while Compton rapper YG will perform in the second quarter.EARLY DEPARTUREThe Vikings flew to Los Angeles on Tuesday evening, hoping to better acclimate to the two-time-zone change. The Vikings are 1-5 in Thursday night road games, winning only at Dallas in 1978. Traveling cross-country to play one of the NFL’s best teams with three days of rest is a daunting task.“Yeah Chuck Foreman Jersey , it’s a problem,” coach Mike Zimmer said. “We haven’t had a home game on a short week since I’ve been here in five years. But you play the schedule how it is.”NOT A FANThe Rams are also unenthused about their short-week schedule, although they’re grateful they got to stay home for it. McVay joked that he’s running on “maybe two” hours of sleep per night. Last weekend, Gurley summed up many players’ feelings about Thursday football: “It’s the dumbest thing ever.”GOING WITHOUT GRIFFENThe Vikings will play without defensive end Everson Griffen, a captain and three-time Pro Bowl pick. The former USC star won’t make his Coliseum return while he is sidelined indefinitely for treatment of mental illness following a pattern of erratic and threatening behavior. With players, coaches and staff concerned about Griffen’s well-being, the show must go on. Stephen Weatherly had his first career sack against the Bills while starting in place of Griffen.INJURED CORNERSThe Rams have bigger problems than a late start time: Their star-studded defense is suddenly short-handed after former Pro Bowl cornerbacks Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters both incurred injuries in last week’s win over the Chargers.Talib needs ankle surgery and will be out for at least eight weeks. Peters’ calf injury isn’t so serious, but still might keep him out. The Rams are likely to go against Cousins with backup cornerbacks including Sam Shields, Troy Hill and Nickell Robey-Coleman.“I feel like we’re going to be great,” Robey-Coleman said. “I can’t take away from the hard work that every guy on this depth chart put in to get an opportunity to get on the field.”SLOW STARTAfter ranking seventh in the NFL last season in yards rushing, the Vikings are next-to-last with just 66 yards per game, although they’ve been throwing excessively with two late deficits in their first three games. There still hasn’t been much room for Dalvin Cook or Latavius Murray to run, and going against the Rams’ stout defensive line won’t help. Pat Elflein will return to the starting lineup at center, his rehab from offseason surgeries finally complete.“We’re not in panic mode. We’re not in that,” said Cook, who is expected to play after sitting out last week’s loss to Buffalo. “We’re going to get this thing going. It’s just a matter of time.”

of its 100th season Brett Hundley Jersey White , the NFL will break from tradition and feature the Packers vs. the Bears in its season opener Sept. 5.Usually, the Super Bowl champion is the home team for the prime-time opener, but the league wants to salute historic rivalries in 2019. None fits better than Chicago-Green Bay. The teams have met 198 times since 1921, when the Bears were the Chicago Staleys. Green Bay leads the series 97-95-6, including the clubs splitting two postseason games.Staging the Thursday night game at Chicago’s Soldier Field — even if it is a modernized version of the stadium — adds to the theme. There will be a free fan festival and concert in nearby Grant Park and, for the first time, the league has approved a free viewing event of the game in the park.“We see that around other sports,” said Peter O’Reilly, the NFL’s executive vice president for league events. Such viewings, for example, have been a staple of the World Cup for decades, and hockey also has adopted the practice. “It will create a big festival environment.”This will be the first time since 2003 the Super Bowl champion has not played in the opener. New England instead will open at home in the prime-time game Sunday night, Sept. 8. The opponent has not yet been determined. The full schedule will be announced next month.“With the 100th season, we want to do something to kick it off in a special way,” said Hans Schroeder Marwin Evans Jersey White , the league’s chief operating officer of media. “We’re celebrating the Bears, one of the original member clubs, in their 100th season, and the Packers are in their 101st. It’s an iconic matchup.”Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel invoked the name of George Halas, the team’s founder, in welcoming the news.“George ‘Papa Bear’ Halas and the NFL’s co-founders probably didn’t imagine the federation they established 100 years ago in cities and towns across the Midwest would one day be the most successful professional sports league in the world,” Emanuel said in a statement. “But that’s what their vision achieved. Chicago — the most American of American cities — is the perfect venue for this game.”Schroeder and Brian Rolapp, the NFL’s chief media and business officer, outlined other plans for the 100th season: NFL Films will produce a series that selects the 100 greatest teams, plays, games, characters and game changers; an all-time team is being chosen and will be featured in a TV series; and Peyton Manning will talk to fans around the country about the history of the NFL for another television series. The league also disclosed plans for next month’s draft that will supplement the proceedings in Nashville. Teams will make selections in eight of the original 13 towns that comprised the NFL for its first season. In Dayton, Ohio, the field used back then, Triangle Park http://www.packerslockerroom.com/authentic-oren-burks-jersey , still exists, and a selection will be made there. The NFL also has committed to installing new turf on the field.“This is a really special moment for our city,” Dayton mayor Nan Whaley said. “We’re excited that the NFL is recognizing the places that were there in the very beginning and that they are celebrating Dayton’s special history in paving the way for the league with a donation that will leave a lasting impact in the community.”Each of the 32 clubs will stage a “Fantennial Weekend” during the regular season in which it will work in conjunction with local high school football teams on a Friday, stage a fan festival on Saturday, and then have former players from the NFL club at the game on Sunday. The home team also will reveal the greatest moment or play in its history that day.Rolapp said the league is talking to DIRECTV about expanding the digital presence for its popular Sunday Ticket option that makes available all out-of-market games. The NFL could opt out of its contract with DIRECTV after next season.“The world has really changed and how people consume games has changed,” he said. “How do we broaden these rights, deliver more easily to digital platforms?” Tony Mandarich is included on any list of the biggest draft busts in NFL history, and he says his story is a cautionary tale not for NFL scouts who struggle to identify the top prospects coming out of college, but for NFL players who struggle with substance abuse.Mandarich said in a long interview with Jeremy Schaap on ESPN that the major challenges for him in the NFL were getting off steroids (which he says he used in college but never as a pro) and getting on painkillers (which he says he struggled with for years).“I was taking 40, 50, 60 painkillers a day, and drinking,” Mandarich said of his career in the NFL, where he arrived in Green Bay as the second overall pick in the 1989 draft but played only three seasons.Mandarich also says that much of his success at Michigan State was a result of steroid use, and he says he decided when he got to the NFL to stop using steroids because the NFL’s testing program was more stringent than the testing in college football.“The testing Vince Biegel Jersey White , I felt, was too hard,” Mandarich said. “I didn’t want it even talked about, so I just didn’t do them.”Mandarich said he thought he’d only lose 10 percent of his strength when he got off steroids but lost much more than that and couldn’t be the same player. However, after quitting painkillers and getting healthy, Mandarich returned to the NFL, signing with the Colts in 1996 and spending three years in Indianapolis as a solid if not great player. Mandarich said that when he played with the Colts, off steroids and off painkillers, “It was the first time I played a game without a drug in my body since high school.”Today Mandarich says he’s happy and healthy and working as a photographer. He gets invited back to Green Bay when the Packers have events for former players, but he declines, saying that part of his life is behind him, and he thinks he’d get booed.

boiled over. The losing is beating him.Annoyed with a reporter's line of questioning about a drive at the end of the first half in last week's loss at New England https://www.brownsfanshop.com/Terrance-Mitchell-Jersey , the Browns fiery quarterback abruptly ended his weekly interview session on Wednesday and stormed off.Mayfield, who is tied for the NFL lead with 12 interceptions, grew increasingly agitated when a reporter asked him about a failed two-minute drive in a 27-13 loss to the Patriots. The Browns were called for a penalty, which Mayfield said prevented them from moving the ball."Was I happy with the drive? No, we didn't score points," Mayfield chirped. "That's the dumbest question you could ask. What?"Mayfield then disgustedly walked away from the lectern and toward his locker.Soon after, the former No. 1 overall pick went on Twitter to explain his exasperation. Picked by some experts to win the AFC North, the Browns (2-5) haven't played up to enormous expectations and have lost three straight games."Everybody wants to hear the truth until they actually get it," Mayfield wrote. "I am who I am and always have been. Don't call it emotional when it's convenient and then passion when it fits. I care about winning, so yeah I'm frustrated."If I was to act like it's okay to lose, then y'all would say that I've gotten complacent. My sense of urgency is at an all time high. And if I offend anybody along the way. that's too bad."Before his minor meltdown, Mayfield was cordial while answering questions about Cleveland's numerous issues this season. The Browns lead the league with 70 penalties, the offense has been unable to find a consistent rhythm and Mayfield has thrown just six touchdown passes after setting the league rookie record with 27 last season. He's ranked 32nd with a 57.6 percent completion rate, and Mayfield — along with Browns first-year coach Freddie Kitchens — haven't figured out how to best use wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry, who have combined for one TD reception.Mayfield has had a somewhat strained relationship with the Cleveland media since he arrived in 2018. He's been defensive about some things, but this was the first time his temper got the best of him.The exchange Wednesday began innocently with a reporter asking why there didn't seem to be urgency late in the half."When the penalty happened, then we were behind the chains," Mayfield countered. When the reporter interjected with, "but," Mayfield shot back."No, stop saying 'but.' I just told you the clock was running and we had a penalty," Mayfield snapped. "Do you want to give them the ball back? No. You do not play; you do not know it. That is just plain and simple."Walking away angrily from a media session isn't a major sin, but it's not a great look either for a team leader or the player dubbed as the face of Cleveland's franchise. After the QB's hasty exit, Browns left guard Joel Bitonio offered support to his teammate."I understand his passion and his desire to win," he said. "He really wants to be the best and I feel like in that situation he feels like he's being attacked. He probably feels like he answered the question to his fullest ability and he feels like it's being piled on."Is it the right thing to do to storm off? Probably not, but that's his personality. He's fiery, he wants to be the best, and I think that just shows that he's trying to get us to a certain level."Bitonio doesn't feel the need to discuss the situation with Mayfield."It's one of those situations where I just kind of keep my hands out of it and let Baker be Baker Jarvis Landry Jersey ," he said. "That's just who he is."Mayfield's emotions fuel him on the field, where he's willing to engage in trash talk with opponents or join his teammates for an end-zone celebration following a score. He developed a reputation for brash behavior for some on-field antics while winning the Heisman Trophy at Oklahoma. He's been mostly well-behaved as a pro, but his second season has been a major struggle. After playing one of the league's toughest schedules through seven games, the Browns visit Denver (2-6) on Sunday before playing three straight home games.Mayfield said it's time to start winning."We have to take responsibility and take it personal to do our jobs the very best to the highest ability," he said. "Doing everything right. Physical mistakes are going to happen, but that is OK. Guys understand that we are human, but the mental aspect of it and the penalties and things like that are things we need to iron out, and that we will get fixed."NOTES: The Browns claimed LB Tae Davis on waivers from the Giants, who released him earlier this week. He's appeared in 18 NFL games with five starts. Cleveland had an open roster spot after DE Genard Avery was traded Monday to Philadelphia. ... S Damarious Randall remains sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained on Oct. 13 against Seattle. CB Greedy Williams picked off QB Baker Mayfield and WR Odell Beckham Jr "took someone’s soul" on Day 2 of camp." />Skip to main contentclockmenumore-arrownoyesDawgs EDTDay 2 of Browns training camp still had fans buzzing, on the eve of the pads going on. Let’s get to Friday’s recap.Cleveland Browns Training Camp Report - Day 2 (7/26/19)1. Hoping for Good Fortune: You don’t like to see any injuries happen in training camp, preventing a team or players from wondering what could have been. And to start things off, the Giants’ wide receiver situation got a lot worse this morning with this news:When I read these Twitter reports, for all the excitement there is in camp, I hold my breath, hoping nothing serious happens to a member of our beloved Browns. For now, the team is pretty good through two days of camp. The only player who began the day sidelined was WR Damion Ratley, who is working through a leg injury suffered on the first day of camp.2. Drill of the Day: Often times, a defensive back will need to shed the chip block of a cornerback or other player, to then try and make a play on the player with the ball. This drill works on the motions of doing that.3. Greg Joseph vs. Austin Seibert: Besides right guard, the kicker position is another one facing a true competition. Even though it’s popular to pick the rookie to make the team, I liked hearing about Joseph’s improved depth this offseason, which is why I put him on my 53-man projection. To start camp off, he has the edge:4. One-on-One Drills: I don’t envy being a cornerback in some of these one-on-one drills. It started with WR Odell Beckham Jr, who ran a curl route to “steal a guy’s soul (it was DB Robert Jackson)” by breaking his ankles, as two reporters put it. And then, showing off his quickness for the second day in a row was WR Damon Sheehy-Guiseppi.5. Defensive Depth Chart: Cleveland.com’s Jake Burns does a fantastic job providing live analysis at training camp. I don’t know how the heck he is able to watch all 22 players on the field at a time and dissect it all so quickly; I have enough trouble seeing jersey numbers for one player at a time in camp. Anyway, he talked about what appear to be the first-, second- Genard Avery Color Rush Jersey , and third-team units for the defense. Let’s start with defensive line:DL (1st): DE Myles Garrett, DT Sheldon Richardson, DT Larry Ogunjobi, DE Olivier VernonDL (2nd): DE Genard Avery, DT Trevon Coley, DT Daniel Ekuale, DE Anthony ZettelDL (3rd): DE Chad Thomas, DT Brian Price, DT Carl Davis, DE Chris SmithAnd then the linebackers. Note, Burns also pointed out that Taylor ran with the ones when three linebacker packages were deployed.LB (1st): MLB Joe Schobert, OLB Christian KirkseyLB (2nd): MLB Adarius Taylor, OLB Ray-Ray ArmstrongLB (3rd): MLB Sione Takitaki, OLB Mack WilsonLB (4th): MLB Willie Harvey, OLB Anthony Stubbs6. How Pumped Would You Be...if you showed up to training camp, and DE Myles Garrett fired a pass into the stands at you, and then you throw it back to him?7. Greedy for Picks: CB Greedy Williams needs to work his way up from the second-team defense, and he got off to a nice start on Day 2 of camp, intercepting a pass in one-on-one drills. And then, here is Williams stepping in front of a Mayfield pass in the end zone, intended for WR Odell Beckham Jr.And then here is some praise from Brendan Leister:8. Hollywood Higgins: One of the standout players on Day 2 of camp for the offense was WR Rashard Higgins. Here he is catching a 7-on-7 red zone pass from QB Baker Mayfield. 9. Tim Couch in the House: Former Browns QB Tim Couch will be calling preseason action again, and he was in attendance giving some love to the fans:10. Brownies: It was Kyle Kalis’ turn at right guard with the first-team offense today. ... OL Austin Corbett was the second-team center. ... WR Derrick Willies caught a touchdown pass off of a tipped pass by QB Drew Stanton. ... LB Sione Takitaki continued to be a little physical on non-contact days. ... RB Duke Johnson is getting reps as the third-down back. ... TE Seth DeValve, besides working at tight end, is working as the backup fullback. ... DT Mike Daniels signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions. A total of nine puppies have been adopted this year. ... After practice, head coach Freddie Kitchens allowed players’ families to come onto the field:11. Next Up: Practice continues Saturday in Berea, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. It will be the first padded practice of camp.

a meaningless game Justin Vogel Jersey , so why not have a little fun? That’s what the Lions did when they lined up for a field goal but snapped the ball directly to kicker Matt Prater, who threw the ball to a wide open Levine Toilolo in the end zone for a touchdown. It was a solid throw by Prater against a Packers special teams that didn’t see it coming, and it gave the Lions a 14-0 lead.It also raised the question of why it took until a meaningless Week 17 game for the Lions to pull out all the stops. The Lions did the same thing last year, blowing out the Packers in Week 17 and employing plenty of creative play calling in a meaningless game.So far, Matt Patricia’s team is outplaying Joe Philbin’s team, which may give Patricia a boost at the end of a disappointing first season Justin McCray Color Rush Jersey , and may hurt Philbin as he attempts to earn the Packers coaching job on a permanent basis. Earlier this offseason, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers called running back Aaron Jones “most athletic, fast guy with a little bit of a belly” but Jones is bringing less of a belly with him to work this year.Jones said he’s cut his body fat in half while maintaining the same weight by cleaning up his diet. Jones was “big into candy,” but stopped eating it and now feels “stronger in the legs” than he did in his first two seasons. The boost in strength comes as Jones prepares for his first season in head coach Matt LaFleur’s offense. Jones believes the team will “rely on the run” more than they did while dropping back to pass over 71 percent of the time last year and thinks he’s a good fit for what LaFleur wants to do.“I feel like I am,” Jones said, via ESPN.com. “We’ve run outside zone in previous years here https://www.thepackersfanshop.com/Marwin-Evans-Jersey , so that’s what we’re running and I feel good in this scheme. It’s a lot of things I’ve seen before, so it’s nothing new to me. We take a look on film and see how it’s worked in other systems, so it just gets me very excited.”Jones has averaged 5.5 yards per carry since entering the NFL, but has averaged just under nine carries per game. If he’s right about the fit, the latter number should be going up and similar effectiveness would be a welcome boost to the offense.

The Colts could use a tone setter on the back end, and the hard-hitting Gant would be an excellent fit.The interview will be towards the bottom of the page, as he interviewed exclusively with Stampede Blue to talk about rising up from being a walk on to a star player, why he declared early for this draft, and how he would pair with Malik Hooker on the back end.
BackgroundSize:5’11” 209 poundsMeasurables: 40 Time: 4.63 / 10-yard split: 1.61 / Bench Reps: 17 Reps / Vertical Jump: 34.5 inches / Broad Jump: 114 inches / 3-Cone: 7.45 secondsCareer Stats:190 total tackles, 14 tackles for a loss, 1 sack, 2 interceptions, and 13 pass deflections in his career.Round Projection:Rounds 4-5Fit with the Colts:The Colts still have a major need for a safety in this draft despite re-signing Matthias Farley and Clayton Geathers. Geathers has had his injury problems in the past and Farley is coming off of a season-ending injury. Adding a tone setter like Gant would be an excellent addition to the team. He may not be a great athlete https://www.coltsfanshop.com/Le_Raven-Clark-Jersey , but he makes up for that deficiency with a tireless motor, excellent angles, and top-notch physicality. He is a tone setter on the back end that offenses are always aware of. The addition of Gant, to go along with the safety group the team already has, could make for a fun and physical group.
Film RoomMotor and closing speed stand out the most on film. Gant knows how to close ground in a hurry, and plays with a ton of effort on every play.Gant is solid in coverage as well, as he knows how to separate ball from man and be physical with bigger players.Gant is also a big hitter on almost every play (which got me a bit excited in this tweet).
InterviewZH: You decided to walk on at Marshall out of high school. Why did you decide to go that route?MG: I didn’t really have any other choices, I didn’t have any offers from any other schools. The process was getting really difficult and my mother told me as a last resort she wants me to go to school just for my education, and I got accepted to most schools. Marshall was right down the road and was the cheapest process for me to be able to go to school. Once we got down there for a tour, the opportunity for me to be a walk on showed itself and my mother said it was a great opportunity for me to be able to play football and continue my education.
ZH: How did it feel when you finally earned that scholarship last year?MG: It felt great because I was able to relieve my mother of having to pay for school after those first two years. It was just a great feeling because of that aspect.
ZH: How did it feel to go from walk on to Team MVP after this past season?MG: It felt great. Not just for myself Khari Willis Jersey , but for being able to be a leader for everybody on the team from the walk ons to the people who get every single rep. Just being able to lead by example and show people that you can come from anything was really important for me.
ZH: You decided to declare for this draft early, declaring after your redshirt Junior season. What went into deciding to leave college early?MG: I would say just the opportunity to be able to chase my dream and to be able to contribute and give back to my mother. She put the money into my dream those first two years when I was a walk on and helped me reach the point where I am at right now. Seeing the toll it took on her paying for those first two years, I really want to be able to give back to mother for everything she did for me.
ZH: Going to your film, you don’t just tackle players. You tackle through them. How important is it to be a consistent tackler who leaves a mark on players when you are tackling?MG: The main thing that I think people shy away from is that hitting someone sticks in a person’s mind for an entire game. We are all human, you know. If you have to think about or second guess playing the same same way that you have always played, especially for offensive players, that slows down the way they usually play and that is an advantage for the defense and the entire team even. That is just the advantage of putting it into their head that if they go my direction, I’m going to make the tackle.
ZH: Would you label yourself as a tone setter of a defense?MG: Yeah, most definitely. I set the tone for the entire defense on every play.
ZH: A major aspect of playing safety, especially for strong safeties T.Y. Hilton Jersey , is the ability to cover tight ends. Do you think you match up well with these athletic tight ends in the NFL?MG: Yeah definitely. I would say being able to be so versatile, with playing in the box and checking running backs and tight ends and slot receivers, is a strength for me. Being able to come down and play man or play zone is something I’m very prepared for. I’m fluid in my hips and I think I’d be great doing that.
ZH: Who in the NFL do you model your game after/compare yourself to?MG: If I could compare myself to anyone, I would say Earl Thomas, who recently signed with the Ravens. He is just versatile. He can play anywhere on the field and there is no drop off in any position you put him at.
ZH: How well do you think that you would pair with a ballhawking free safety in Malik Hooker?MG: I would say that I would be great because with my skill and his play as a ballhawk, we would be perfect with each other. You got a person who can play in the box and stop the run, when it is necessary, and check the tight ends and running backs and stop the short game, which helps out on the back end and allows him to roam back there. We could also switch roles even and make the defense even more fluid.
ZH: Last question for you. On and off of the field, what is my team getting if they draft Malik Gant? What makes you stand out in this class?MG: If you look at my stats and you look at my style of play Darius Leonard Color Rush Jersey , there isn’t any safety that matches up with my versatility. Everybody is a safety who can play on the back end or play in the post but no one in this entire class this year has played as many snaps in the box as I have or has made as many stops for negative yardage at the line of scrimmage as I have. I don’t think anybody else compares to my ability as a safety around the line of scrimmage. Kendricks’ return from his suspension for insider trading will apparently last all of one game.ESPN’s Adam Schefter has delivered the bad news that Kendricks suffered a broken tibia during Monday night’s win against the Minnesota Vikings 12th Fan Color Rush Jersey , and that obviously means his season is over.It is not known what play caused Kendricks’ tibia fracture.Pete Carroll had mentioned on Tuesday that Kendricks “could miss some time,” but at that point he was unaware as to the severity of the injury, and evidently he’s going to miss all of the time.Kendricks was effectively an emergency signing by the Seahawks when K.J. Wright’s knee injury recovery was taking longer than expected, and neither Shaquem Griffin nor Austin Calitro appeared to be ready to take over that starting spot. Having been cut by the Cleveland Browns once he pleaded guilty to insider trading, Seattle scooped him up for Week 2 — the same week that Bobby Wagner also missed with his own injury — and he proved to be an effective addition to the Seahawks defense. Kendricks lost his appeal to have his suspension overturned and wound up being ineligible to play for the Seahawks for two months, but was cleared to return for the Vikings game. With Kendricks out (again) Tyler Lockett Color Rush Jersey , that presumably means Austin Calitro will be back in the starting lineup until Wright is ready to return, if at all. Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner wants a new contract, but that didn’t keep him from reporting to the team’s offseason workouts earlier this year.It did keep him from getting onto the field during those practices, however. Wagner said that he wasn’t going to take part in those sessions without a new deal from the team and that left him to play an observer role throughout the spring. It’s unclear what he plans to do during training camp practices. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Wagner is expected to report with the rest of Seattle’s veterans on Wednesday, but that “he’ll be cautious” about any on-field work as long as he’s still waiting for an extension. When the offseason began, there were a handful of Seahawks players looking for new deals. Quarterback Russell Wilson got his deal Frank Clark Color Rush Jersey , defensive end Frank Clark was traded and defensive end Jarran Reed may have to wait a while after being suspended for the first six games of this season, so Wagner shouldn’t have much competition for attention from the front office. It remains to be seen if that will land him a deal, but he should be around for any conversations the team would like to have in the coming weeks.
