Here, hands-on coverage of the highly anticipated Devon's near-final production prototype Step 1 watch. While it can tell the time and is a luxury item, the Devon Tread 1 has very little to share with the rest of the high-end watch world. Although it has many moving parts, this is not a mechanical watch in the traditional sense. Instead of a purely spring-driven mechanical machine, it uses a microcontroller board, rechargeable battery, and a small motor to power the movement. Inside the movement is a series of small miniature single-step motors that pull the pedals that indicate the time. The tread is a precision reinforced nylon band that moves in a synchronized action across the dial. The video should illustrate this well. The Tread 1 is truly one of the smallest watches I've ever had the pleasure of wearing.
